Away with paper and over to electronic patient files

"T-Systems convinced us with its experience of a similar solution for the Inselspital, and then the numerous references from the project partner HYDMedia in the hospital sector tipped the scales for our working together", explains Roman Zgraggen, project manager at the Kantonsspital Uri (Uri canton hospital).

Kantonsspital Uri
The foundation stone for the "Kantonsspital" was laid in 1845 with a donation from the Chief Magistrate Karl Emanuel Müller. Today it is an acute hospital with an additional department for long-term patients, and offers extended basic medical care for around 35,000 inhabitants. The "Kantonsspital" attaches great value to cooperation with other healthcare service providers in the Canton (doctors, Spitex, care homes).
The challenge
As a highly up-to-date hospital, the "Kantonsspital Uri" wanted to board the digitalisation train - and move away from existing paper files in favour of a digital archive. The objective was to make all the existing files on inpatient cases accessible throughout the institution and connect the electronic archive to the leading INES system.
The solution
T-Systems was entrusted with introducing a digital archive for patients' files. Together with HYDMedia GmbH, the manufactorer of the system, a system was implemented in which all the patient documents of the "Kantonsspital Uri" are digitally archived. T-Systems worked together with the staff responsible at the hospital to design and implement the system and the associated architecture. In addition processes and procedures were defined to integrate this new technology into the existing processes. After the appropriate training had been provided by the hospitals' own staff, the digitalisation of files was undertaken using scanner workstations set up for this purpose in the registries. Now the necessary information is electronically available to doctors at any time.
