Round-the-clock air rescue: Rega opts for dynamic SAP operation from T-Systems

Zollikofen, May 31, 2010
The Swiss air-rescue service Rega is switching its static SAP operation to dynamic services from T-Systems and at the same time extending its contract with the Deutsche Telekom subsidiary. The SAP applications form the basis for the deployment of personnel, helicopter and jet aircraft at Rega, which carries out around 14,000 rescue missions each year. As a result, Switzerland’s independent, non-profit air-rescue organisation will in future be able to rely on rapid adjustments to SAP capacities round the clock.
T-Systems makes resources available to us as needed and within the shortest time, and we pay only for the services we have actually used,” said François Hochstrasser, CIO for Rega. All the SAP services are provided from T-Systems’ Swiss computing centres in Zollikofen and Langenthal. Redundancy ensures the fail-safe operation the organisation requires. 24-hour operation 365 days a year is a central requirement, since Rega operates round the clock – people can count on fast, straightforward assistance from the air at any time.
“Rega will now benefit from a proven operating model in which infrastructures and computing capacities can be adapted and charged flexibly in line with the customer’s requirement,” said René Mulder, Director Corporate Customers and member of the Management Board T-Systems in Switzerland.
Rega, which has its headquarters at Zürich-Kloten airport and 12 helicopter bases across Switzerland, has relied on SAP services from T-Systems since 2003. It renewed its contract ahead of time with the switch to dynamic services.
In addition to Rega, T-Systems serves other customers in the healthcare sector in Switzerland, such as hospitals, medical insurers and pharmacies.
